Now is the time for fabulous fall trout fishing in Sussex County streams! Last week Sussex regions of the Big Flat Brook, Upper Paulinskill, Walkill and Upper Pequest rivers were stocked with nearly 3,600 super-sized trout, measuring 14 to 24 inches, and some of those fish weigh up to 8 pounds.
Fall-stocked fish provide great trout fishing oppertunities throughout the entire fall and winter. The fish that we stock in the fall are the same that were raised in the spring stocking. We kept some of those fish and feed them for another 3 to 4 months into the fall, grow them to this size, and plus, we throw in 1,000 of those breeder fish.
The regular fall bow deer hunting season is in full swing in Sussex County. That goes until October 26th then October 27th permit bow season opens. The Rough Grouse season opened October 17th and the North Zone Woodcock season opens this saturday October 20th.
