Artists that fall into the Mixed Media category are those who create pieces that have not only audio elements but visual elements as well; "visual elements," in this case, refers to more than just stage props. A multimedia performance might include multiple screens for video projections, lighting, performance art, dance, or any number of simultaneously occurring art forms.
